Transfiguration Toad-in-the-Hole

A fun food/activity for the Transfiguration is making toad-in-the-hole. (This is the American egg-in-toast version, not the English sausages-in-batter version.) We read the story of the Transfiguration from one of the gospels and make this for breakfast. As the egg cooks, we watch as it becomes dazzling white, just like Jesus! Well, not JUST like Jesus. But it’s still fun.
Prep/Cook Time 10 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 teaspoon butter or cooking spray, olive oil, bacon grease, etc.
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat a skillet or griddle on the stove over medium heat. Using a large round cookie cutter or a wide glass, cut a circle “cloud” out of the center of a piece of bread. Grease the griddle. Put both the piece of bread and the cloud onto the griddle, separately. Crack an egg into the hole in the bread and watch as the egg becomes dazzling white! Turn to cook both sides. Season with salt and pepper.
