St. Joseph the Worker Spiced Play Dough

This smooth, natural, homemade playdough is fun to make, long lasting, and smells amazing. For the feast day, I let my kids go at it with real tools (on a protected surface, with supervision).
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Servings 2 cups

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Salt
  • 4 tsp Cream of Tartar or Alum
  • 5 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • ½ tsp Cloves
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 tbsp Oil

  • Combine the dry ingredients in a saucepan.
  • Add the water and oil and mix well.
  • Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and forms a ball. It should no longer be sticky!
  • Remove from heat, let cool, and knead.
  • Store in an air-tight container to reuse over and over.

Hi! I’m Kendra.

For twenty years now, I’ve been using food, prayer, and conversation based around the liturgical calendar to share the lives of the saints and the beautiful truths and traditions of our Catholic faith. My own ten children, our friends and neighbors, and people just like you have been on this journey with me.

If you’d like to learn more about what Catholics believe and why, and to be inspired by saints from every era all over the world, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the prospect of how to teach your kids about the faith in a way that’s true, engaging, and lasts a lifetime, we can help!
