Bl. Carlo Acutis Nutella Sundaes

Carlo Acutis is a millennial blessed, born in Italy in 1991. He died of cancer at the age of fifteen. We know that (in addition to Mass and the sacraments) he liked playing soccer and video games, and that his favorite treats were Nutella and ice cream. We also know that he practiced temperance, voluntarily limiting himself to one hour of video games per week and scheduling his favorite treats for special occasions only. Now that’s heroic sanctity! I don’t know if Carlo ever combined his favorite treats into a sundae, but I decided to try it, and it’s . . . amazing. But only for special occasions.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 2 pints Italian gelato or other ice cream
  • About 1 cup 8 ounces nutella chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 12 strawberries sliced
  • Whipped cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Scoop the nutella into a glass measuring cup. Microwave for 30 seconds (even if it says not to on the container) and stir. Divide the ice cream into bowls. Drizzle about 2 Tablespoons of nutella over the ice cream scoops in each bowl. Top with sliced strawberries, a squirt of whipped cream, and some sprinkles.

If you’d like to learn more about what Catholics believe and why, and to be inspired by saints from every era all over the world, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the prospect of how to teach your kids about the faith in a way that’s true, engaging, and lasts a lifetime, we can help!
