Pay it Forward: my favorite blogs you might not know about yet

by | Jan 1, 2014 | Blogging, Five Favorites, January | 11 comments

Last week, I wrote my thank you notes to some bloggers who have helped me along my bloggy way this last year. And you guys were mostly all, “Duh. Obviously. Those are all great blogs and we already totally like them.”

So now I’d like to share the love with some blogs you might not be quite as familiar with.

Some of these bloggers have asked me for advice, some I’ve just become friends with through commenting or facebook, but all of them should have way more followers than they do. So check ’em out.

In the category of “Crafts and Craftiness,”
I submit for your consideration:

Theresa’s blog is full of lovely photography, really great crafts for moms and kids, and excellent iPad homeschool tips. She’s also got non-iPad-related homeschool stuff, sewing tutorials, recipes, reflections on raising a child with type-1 diabetes, and . . . Christmas Snack Table.

Post to check out: Happy Handmade Christmas

In the category of “Home and Life Organization,”
I submit for your consideration:
Life out of control? Stuff out of control? Maybe Amanda can help. She’s got great free printables to organize the day for you and your kids, plus household organization tips (like how to turn your coat closet into a mud room), foster care/adoption insights, and sewing tutorials.

In the category of “(Possible) Conversion Stories,”
I submit for your consideration:
Jenny’s blog is about everything and nothing, sprinkled liberally with non-expert photography and Pinterest fails. She’s funny and forthright, and she and her husband are considering converting to Catholicism, so please keep them in your prayers!

In the category of “Social Media, Sarcasm, and Special Needs,”
I submit for your consideration:
Kelly can help you stop hating Facebook, and you can help her by NOT parking in that handicapped spot. If you like touching stories of real families learning to live with special needs and random weird photos of stuff and entire posts about things you can’t afford on Amazon, well this is the blog for you.

Post to check out: Learn From My Preschool Mistakes; A Letter To Myself

In the category of “Literature and Intellectualism,”
I submit for your consideration:
My dislike of Flannery O’Connor is so exasperating that it’s inspiring entire new blogs. But the world is better for it, because Kathryn is brilliant. She’s got insightful and novel takes on movies, music, and literature. Reading her blog is guaranteed to make you seem smarter at dinner parties.
-and-
Christy may be a rural Canadian homeschooling mama of a bunch of littles, but don’t let that fool you. She’s a fountain (see what I did there?) of insights on excellent authors (but especially Chesterton), sophisticated British miniseries, and classic Christmas movies.
What other blogs out there should we be checking out for the new year? Let us know in the comments!

Happy New Year! Thanks for starting your blog 🙂

  2. Theresa @ OrdinaryLovely

Well, wasn't I surprised to see me up there! Thanks, Kendra! (I emailed my mom right away to tell her Christmas Snack Table is famous!!) I keep meaning to go back and comment on a post of yours from a few days ago, so here it is here – even though I'm not too into the zombie apocalypse genre of anything, even I have to admit your new charm bracelet is AWESOME! Happy New Year!

  3. Kelly M.

Thanks Kendra! I think this is going to inspire me to pay it forward with my own post on great new blogs I discovered this year…in which you would certainly merit a mention. Glad that we've found each other across the great big interweb.

  4. Amanda

Oh my goodness, I feel like I'm halfway famous now having been mentioned on your blog twice! Whoa! You rock Kendra, thank you so much 🙂

  5. Kristen Bright

Check out "Sonlight Garden: Growing our children in the light of the Lord". I found it from My Child, I Love You. 🙂

  6. Kathryn

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much, Kendra! I'm honored to be included in your delightful blogosphere.

  7. Abby S.

Thanks for the recommendations! I've been spending way too much time reading awesome blogs. (Poor Mike!)

Hi! I’m Kendra.

For twenty years now, I’ve been using food, prayer, and conversation based around the liturgical calendar to share the lives of the saints and the beautiful truths and traditions of our Catholic faith. My own ten children, our friends and neighbors, and people just like you have been on this journey with me.

If you’d like to learn more about what Catholics believe and why, and to be inspired by saints from every era all over the world, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the prospect of how to teach your kids about the faith in a way that’s true, engaging, and lasts a lifetime, we can help!
