While we’re out of town, I thought you might like to get to know the family a little better.
Here’s interview number three: my eldest daughter, Betty.
Please state your name and age.
My name is Betty and I’m ten.
For whom are you named?
For St. Elizabeth of Hungary and my great grandmother.
What do you think of having so many brothers?
Sometimes they can be fun and sometimes they’re really annoying. I like playing tag with them. Sometimes they tease me. Sometimes brothers can be inappropriate. But, I don’t want to say that. They ARE. But I don’t want to say it.
You also have sisters.
I like THEM a lot. Anita and I like to play dress up and tea party. I really, really like watching baby Lulu. I’d keep her with me all day if I could.
You were there when she was born.
Yes. I’m glad I was there, but I don’t think I’d like to do it again.
Do you play sports?
Yes. I play soccer, basketball, and softball. Softball is my favorite. I also like singing. I know that’s not a sport. But I also like it.
How do you feel about fashion?
I really like it. I like that I get to pick out my own clothes now.
What is your favorite subject in school?
History, because I get to read a lot of books.
What are your favorite books?
A Little Princess, The Hundred Dresses, The Best Loved Doll, and the Mysterious Benedict Society. This summer I get to start reading Harry Potter, because this is the summer I’m ten, so I get to start reading them.
What’s your least favorite subject in school.
Math. I just keep doing it, but I’m not very good at it.
Do you like to cook?
Yes! I know how to make macaroni and cheese, rice crispy treats, and pizza if you make the dough. And the sauce. I can also make scrambled eggs, and toast, and cake.
Do you think you’d ever write a blog?
If I got married and had a family maybe I’d write a blog about my family and all our family trips.
What do you like best about traveling?
I like that I get to learn about new things and see special and historical places. Going to see religious sites is my favorite. I really liked seeing St. Peter’s Basilica. It’s built on top of St. Peter’s bones and Pope Francis lives next door. I like all the places we’ve been, but that was my favorite.
You babysit for your siblings sometimes. Do you have any childcare tips to share?
Sometimes they don’t listen to me, but I just try my best. Sometimes they’re good. Talking in a strong voice works pretty well. Sometimes it’s good to just let them watch TV.
Do you think it’s hard for homeschooled kids to make friends?
Nope. I have ten best friends. I know them from our homeschool parkday and church and now most all of them are in Little Flowers with me. I think I have a lot of friends.
Even more friends than brothers.
Yep.
I should say I was looking forward a lot to read Betty's interview.
She must be a dream daughter, right? Very sweet and thoughtful.
As for the tip, oh Betty, that's exactly what all real mums do too 😀
Viel Glück in everything as we say in German, or good luck! 🙂
Betty is a doll! She reminds me a little of me, in that I didn't care for Math, loved History (majored in it in College) and loved to read. She appears to be more outgoing/extroverted than I was, and probably more athletic, too.
My only child is a boy and he is (almost 5), but I can see him growing up to be sort of like Jack, and that would be wonderful- but oh what a dream to have a daughter like Betty! Perhaps someday 😉
I am loving all your interviews so far! What a wonderful family!
Dear Betty, The Mysterious Benedict Society is our family's ALL-TIME favorite series! I'm so glad you like them too! We read a lot of books aloud as a family, and the year we spent reading all 3 Benedict books (then the prequel) was simply splendid. Hooray for great books! Keep reading!
Betty rocks.
That is all.
My heart just about melted with what she said about her sisters – especially baby Lulu.
She reminds me of me when I was a girl. So I think she's GREAT! 😉 But really, what a dear!
So lovely! What a little lady!
She can make all my favorite foods! Such a cutie pie. I liked History too, so many interesting things to learn and it can be found in books…I love reading!
Hi Betty! What a dear. 🙂 (Keep on cookin', darlin'!)

She sounds so sweet!!! Melting here, melting
Oh snap. Me and Betty have the same patron Saint–we're twinsies and must certainly be best friends now.
As I hit post, I realized the overwhelming number of grammatical issues with that comment. I'd appreciate it if you don't hold it against me.
Cute! I have really enjoyed this series. 🙂
