The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity Hairdo quote in 8×10 and SQUARE {digital download}

This small excerpt of The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity reads:
Next, looking for a pin, she likewise pinned up her dishevelled hair; for it was not meet that a martyr should suffer with hair dishevelled, lest she should seem to grieve in her glory.

It’s excellent motivation for a mom trying to get dressed and fix her hair in the morning!

I figure if St. Perpetua can manage it while being martyred by wild beasts, I should be able to do it while being martyred to self by all these children.

The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity was written mostly by St. Perpetua herself, in Latin, from jail, before her ceremonial execution by wild cow and the sword in the year 203. This makes it one of the earliest pieces of writing by a Christian woman. The account of the death of Perpetua, her servant Felicity, and their companions was added to the diary by an unknown witness, perhaps Tertullian.

It’s really an amazing historical document. If you’ve got the Catholic All March prayer and devotion booklet, I included an abridged version of the diary in there. The whole account is available online in English and the original Latin.
