An act of abandonment to divine providence in times of trouble and uncertainty is a proactive way to turn worry into prayer. It is letting go of anxiety by actively relinquishing control of our lives to God. It is an acknowledgement that although we don’t have all the answers in this life, God DOES. He wants good for us, and he can bring good out of even the darkest of circumstances. Believing this is an act of our own will. It is a decision born of faith and trust. Whatever happens in this world, a Christian knows an eternal happy ending is available to all who will accept it. Actively submitting to God’s will can give us hope and peace no matter how difficult our lives and times.
This nine day novena of surrender to the will of God was written by Servant of God Dolindo Ruotolo. He died in Naples, Italy on November 19, 1970 at the age of 88. During his lifetime he had a reputation for holiness, especially in suffering, and a deep devotion to abandonment to God’s will. His contemporary, Saint Padre Pio once asked a group of pilgrims from Naples, “Why do you come here, if you have Don Dolindo in Naples? Go to him, he’s a saint!”
The meditations for each day came as Jesus’ words to Father Ruotolo in his personal prayers, but can apply beautifully to anyone.
