Revised to match the content in The Catholic All Year Prayer Companion.
In this booklet, you’ll find all the Bible passages, prayers, songs, and devotions that our family uses throughout the month of September to enhance our family prayer life and our liturgical living in the home. All the Catholic All Year monthly prayer booklets are designed to be used year after year.
I created this booklet to keep from having to wade through all the different versions of prayers available online, and because I really prefer paper over screens when I’m praying. For all the history, tradition, and backstories surrounding these prayers, blessings, and devotions and the feast days to which they are attached, please consult the Catholic All Year Compendium.
The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, and contains two slightly somber—yet still triumphant—feasts: the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and Our Lady of Sorrows. In this booklet you’ll find a script for veneration of the Cross, which can be done at home or at church, plus the Roman Ritual for the Blessing of Crosses to be installed in vineyards, fields, or gardens. You can bring your cross and this prayer to your parish priest and ask him to perform the blessing for you, then install the cross in your yard!
For Our Lady of Sorrows, you’ll find the Bible readings for our family sour candy activity recommended in the Compendium. Also included are instructions and meditations for the thirteenth century Servite Rosary of Our Lady of Sorrows. This can’t be prayed on a usual five decade rosary, but you can follow along with your finger on the included illustrated version, or create one yourself with a string and some knots and/or beads.
You’ll also find an old Italian prayer to Baby Mary in honor of the Nativity of Our Lady, and prayers, Bible readings, and speeches for September saints: Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta, St. Matthew, and the Archangels: Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel, and Saint Raphael.
See the September Booklet Bundle here.
A booklet of just the Veneration of the Cross is available here, the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows is available here, and the Our Lady of Sorrows Scripture Activity is available here in case you’d like to be able to print those separately. An extended license for group use is available here.
Your purchases in the Catholic All Year shop support the production of the Catholic All Year Liturgical Living Video Series, so thank you!

You get a 32 page pdf file, that can be printed as individual pages, but I recommend opening the pdf in Adobe (there is a free version available for download here) and printing it as a booklet on 9 pieces of paper. For best results print on high quality paper (like 24 weight). Lighter weight paper will work, but there will be more show through from the back.
Your purchase entitles you to print this booklet as many times as you’d like for your own household’s personal use. Please do not share the digital files or print the booklet for others. Thank you! For an extended license, that allows printing the items from one listing for classrooms, groups, or extended family, please see this listing.
