At Home Nativity Play Script Printable Booklet {Digital Download}

We created this script using Biblical text and familiar hymns, so that our whole family could really get to know the story, the people, and the actual words of the Nativity of Our Lord.

We use costumes from the dress up box and dad's closet, and sets and props from around the house.

Set up takes a half an hour to an hour, and the play takes about ten minutes.

The script can be used as a "table read" without sets, props, or costumes, but I'd recommend getting out your t-shirt turbans and doing the whole shebang.

There are eleven speaking roles. In smaller groups, individuals can play multiple roles. Bigger groups can add as many angels, shepherds, scribes, and wisemen as necessary.

If you've got a musician in the family, musical accompaniment is a plus, but acapella singing will do just fine.

No memorization is required. The actors don’t even have to be able to read. We choose a grown-up to read the part of the narrator, and for our littlest actors, I’ll just say their lines to them in a low voice, a line or two at a time, and they repeat them.

Two year olds to great-grandparents, extended family, out of town guests, and non Catholic friends have all participated in our little at home productions.

We've put on this play in our own home, on the evening of Christmas Day, for over ten years now. It's become a sweet, fun, often hilarious, and completely irreplaceable part of Christmas for us.
